It only takes a few minutes to raise your heart rate, break a sweat and
get your blood pumping. As soon as these physical signs occur, you are
already losing weight. This tells us that in just 20 minutes of Pilates, you
are contributing to weight loss. Of course, this depends on how hard you
push yourself, as the higher your heart rate is, the more fat you will be
burning. If you push yourself to a sweat, you’re on the right track and
your calories will be melting.

The American Centre for Disease Control and Prevention recommends to
do around 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity each week.
By participating in 20 minutes of Pilates per day, you are almost at the
recommended time. Add a brisk walk or short jog into your week and you
will be well on your way to losing weight.

Resistance exercise like Pilates has been shown to maintain an elevated
metabolic rate even after the workout has ended. This means that your
20 minutes in physical time is worth much more in energy expenditure
time! A short stint of Pilates is a good opportunity to stimulate your
metabolism and to keep the calories burning throughout the rest of the
day.
